Vassar Picks Up Key Road Win at Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON – The Vassar men’s basketball team picked up their fifth win of the season and improved to 4-5 in conference play with a 73-67 win at Bard on Saturday afternoon.

Alex Seff poured in a game-high 16 points on 6-11 shooting and a perfect 4-4 from deep. Zach Bromfeld added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Paul Grinde recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman B.J. White added nine points and Owen Murray chipped in seven while grabbing 10 boards.

The Brewers shot 50.0% (29-58) from the field on Saturday, including 45.5% (5-11) from three-point range.

The first five minutes of the game were tightly contested as it was 10-10 with 14:34 to play before halftime. Vassar scored five straight points behind a Bromfeld layup, a Mason Dyslin foul shot, and a Hunter Gettings jumper. The Brewers were able to hold that lead throughout most of the first half before David Runcie tied the game at 29-29 with under 90 seconds to go before the break. White broke the tie with a jumper in the paint to give Vassar a two-point lead heading into the locker room.

The game was tied twice early in the second frame at 31 all and again at 41 all with 14:22 on the clock. Murray converted the and-one play to put Vassar up three and hand them a lead they would never relinquish.

The Brewers led by as many as 12 points mid-way through the second half. A Bromfeld jumper and a White three-pointer had Vassar rolling with 9:18 to go. The Raptors would cut the deficit to as little as five, but the Brewers had all the answers quickly snuffing out any scoring run.

Vassar will head through the league circuit for the second time around starting next weekend at St. Lawrence and Clarkson on Friday and Saturday.
