ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON – The Vassar women’s basketball team pushed their winning streak to three with a commanding 82-36 win at Bard on Saturday afternoon.
All 14 Brewers saw action on the court, with 13 different players scoring for Vassar. Ariella Rosenthal paced the offense with 12 points and added eight rebounds. Freshman Ryan DeOrio posted a career-high with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds while also recording two assists, two blocks, and a steal. Nicole Teta rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
Kim Romanoff had a team-high five assists against the Raptors. And Julia Roellke matches Rosenthal’s rebound total with eight of her own. The Brewers as a team were dominant on the glass, outrebounding Bard 67-30.
The Raptors scored the first basket of the day with a Elena Lefevre layup before the Brewers broke out a 14-0 over the next six minutes. The run started with a Maeve Sussman jumper and Jackie Cenan closed with jumper assisted from DeOrio. Bard knocked down a three-pointer, but the Brewers still ran their lead up to 18 by the end of the first with a trifecta from Isa Peczuh.
Bard was able to outscore Vassar in the second frame 12-10, but it was only enough to cut their deficit to 16 before halftime. Overall, the Vassar defense held the Raptors to just 11.1% shooting in the first 20 minutes while converting 41.9% of their own shots.
The Brewers put up 49 points in the second half, led by Rosenthal’s 10 and eight apiece from DeOrio and Teta. Vassar scored 11 straight points over a five minute span between the third and fourth quarter as they stretched their lead to 36 points with 7:08 to play.
Vassar begins the second half of Liberty League play next weekend traveling to St. Lawrence and Clarkson on Friday and Saturday.
