Mount Saint Mary College Earns Split at Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team returned to action on Saturday, splitting a non-conference doubleheader at Bard. The Knights dropped the opener 5-3 before rallying for an 8-3 game two victory. Senior Christopher Introcaso homered and drove in three runs in the victory.

The Knights opened the scoring with a pair of tallies in the fourth inning and after the Raptors scored in the home half of the frame, pulled back in front by two runs on a Nick Rizzo run scoring single in the top of the fifth.

Bard scored four times in the home half of the fifth frame to move in front for good in the game and did not allow another Mount Saint Mary base runner the rest of the contest. David Schlosser got the game even at 3-3 with a two-run double for the Raptors and later scored the eventual game winning run on a wild pitch later in the inning.

Mount Saint Mary was held to five singles in the opener, with Rizzo finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases. John Santana produced a hit, run and two steals, with Steven Bauer adding a base hit, run scored and RBI.

Schlosser and Jeff Goldrosen each drove in two runs for Bard, who outhit the Mount 7-5. Goldrosen posted a pair of hits, with Jordan Myers tripling for Bard.

Jake Stewart suffered the loss for the Mount after working 4.1 innings and surrendering four earned runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out five in falling to 0-1 on the season. Zach Johnson earned the win in relief for Bard, with Zach Hayes posting a six out save.

Game 2 – Mt Saint Mary 8 – Bard 3

The Knights opened up game two early with three runs in each of their first two at-bats. The Raptors sliced the deficit in half with three runs in the third, but the Mount spread its lead back to five runs with singles runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.

Kevin Edgar drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Steven Mirra delivering Rizzo with a run scoring single to close out the scoring in the first inning.

The Knights picked up where the left off in their second at-bat led by a two-run blast off the bat of Introcaso that pushed the Mount’s lead to 6-0. Introcaso added a run scoring triple in the fourth that delivered Anthony Rizzo and Sanata scored an unearned run in the sixth to secure the win for the Knights.

Sanatana, Introcaso, Mirra and Anthony Rizzo each finished with two hits in the second contest of the day with Santana recording a triple and Mirra and Rizzo each doubling. Santana scored three times with Introcaso driving in three.

Alexander Maher made the start and worked 3.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with Blake Keenan coming on to work four scoreless innings to earn the win. He fanned five and allowing two hits in the victory.
