Blue Knights Softball Blanks Yeshiva Twice

CHESTER – Sophomore Bridget Bennett worked a no-hitter in game one and freshman Morgan O’Neill fanned 13 in game two as the Mount Saint Mary College Softball team scored 14-0 and 9-0 Skyline Conference wins over Yeshiva on Sunday.

Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 14 – Yeshiva 0
Bennett picked up her first win of the season with the no-hitter in game one on Sunday. She allowed only three walks in the game and fanned 14. Her strikeout output ties her for the team lead with Cindy Connoly at 22 in 13.2 innings of work.

The Knights outhit the Maccabees 11-0 in the opener, with Courtney Barbara, Connoly and Bennett all recoding multiple safeties. Bennett doubled and scored twice, with Connoly ripping a triple, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Barbara drove in two runs and scored once for the Knights.,

The Mount scored in each of its four at-bats in game one, plating eight runs in the first, three in the second, two in the third and a single run in the fourth. Connoly tripled home two runs in the big first with Taylor Canto connecting on a home run in the second.

Jillian Picarillo doubled home a run for the Knights in the third inning, picking up one of the team’s four extra base hits with Canto and Kathryn Eiler also adding two RBI and Amanda Almodovar scoring twice out of the leadoff spot.

Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 9 – Yeshiva 0
Mount Saint Mary got its second strong pitching performance of the day with O’Neill scoring the win in her first career appearance. She allowed a leadoff single in the first for the Macs’ only hit of the day. She did not allow and walk and struck out 13 Yeshiva hitters.

The Knights opened the game up with five runs in the first and added two runs in the second and third frames. Bennett delivered two runs with a single in the first and drove in another run in the second. Lauren Oury closed out the scoring with a run scoring single in the third.

Oury, Bennett and Erin McCann all recorded two hits in the second contest, with Bennett scoring a run and driving in three. Oury drove in two runs, while Nicolette Moustouka scored three times.

Winners of four straight games, Mount Saint Mary stands at 4-2 overall on the season and 4-0 in Skyline Conference play.
