H.V. Residents Contribute to Benefit Album

NEW YORK CITY – Independent Music Awards (IMA) has released the nominated projects from indie labels from around the globe.

One of the albums nominated for album of the year in the spoken word and music category is “Action Moves People United” a benefit album for the United Nations. The Album was produced by Krista Wallhagen, Kevin Mackie and Rupam Sarma.

Some of the major artist on the album are Kathy Sledge of Sister Sledge, Julian Lennon, Martin Barre of Jethro Tull, Dan Akroyd, Janis Ian, John Wetton of Asia, Steve Walsh of Kansas, Patrick Moraz of Yes and The Moody Blues.

The first such benefit album for The United Nations was George Harrison’s “ The Concert for Bangladesh” in 1971.

Two local Hudson Valley residents with area connections also contributed to the project with a song “ A Dream of Peace”. The song was composed by Prof. Ed McCarthy of The Human Beinz and Renee’ Ruwe. The two are also members of The White House News Photographers Association.

The oldest person on the project is Orlyn Ruwe age 97. Orlyn is also Renee’ Ruwe’s Grandmother. Orlyn contributed with the song “Peace is”. Orlyn raised her family in Seattle, Washington and always dreamed of writing professionally, and she started writing poetry in 1957.

The IMA said of the project “Action Moves People United,” “It has been nominated in the IMA spoken word and music category as Album of The Year. Congratulations and thank everyone who contributed to the making of this world wide collaboration in the name of World Peace and Mother Earth, benefiting UNESCO-USFUCA.” The Awards will be presented in Philharmonic Hall at Lincoln Center on March 31st in New York City.
