Knights Earn Series Win Over Kalamazoo

EMERSON, GA. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team won the rubber match of its non-conference series with Kalamazoo in Georgia on Wednesday with a 10-7 win. Jake Stewart earned his first win of the season and classmate Anthony Rizzo recorded four base hits.

Mount Saint Mary outhit Kalamazoo 16-8 in the game and posted four extra base hits. Blake Keenan got the Mount started in the top of the first inning when he drove in three runs with a double. Nick Rizzo started the frame with a walk and was followed by a bunt single from Anthony Rizzo with Christopher Introcasao loading the bases with a free pass leading into Keenan’s at-bat.

After the Hornets got on the board in the home half of the first, the Knights broke open a 7-1 lead with four more tallies in the top of the second. Tom Huvane doubled home a pair of runs for the Knights and Kevin Edgar chased home Huvane and Keenan with a two-out single.
The two teams traded runs in the home half of the third and top of the fourth before the Mount plated two more runs in the sixth. Edgar and Chris McLaren each drove home runs with doubles for the Knights.

Fiver different Knights recorded at least two hits in the game, led by Anthony Rizzo who finished up 4-for-6 with a pair of runs. Nick Rizzo recorded two hits out of the leadoff spot and added a run and a stolen base.

Keenan and Edgar each doubled and drove in three runs in the win with Huvane finishing up 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Introcaso recorded a hit, drew two walks and scored twice for the Knights.

Stewart moved to 1-1 on the season with 6.0 strong innings of work. He surrendered two runs on four hits and struck out one.

Wednesday’s win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 7-5 overall on the season.
