STONE RIDGE – SUNY Ulster will hold an “Addressing Ageism” lecture and forum as part of the annual Multicultural series and Diversity Day celebration on Wednesday, April 18, from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. in the College Lounge in Vanderlyn Hall on the Stone Ridge campus.
“Ageism” is prejudice or discrimination based on a person’s age which can occur toward children and the elderly. This event will discuss the truth about age discrimination. The forum will stimulate awareness, thought, and discussion about the topic. It will also give insight into the importance of elder care, considering the aged population is currently at its highest level in human history.
The keynote speaker at the event will be Kenneth J. Ronk, Jr., Ulster County Legislature Chairman. The moderator will be Michael Iapoce, the Ulster County Department of Social Services Commissioner. Forum panelists include Lauren W. Sheeley from Ulster County Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, Sharon Murray-Cohen, the Ulster Jewish Family Services Executive Director, Joann Hajek, Director of the Ulster County Department of Social Services, and Michael J. Kavanagh, Chief Assistant District Attorney at the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office. Additionally, the student winners of the annual Spring Diversity Series promotional flyers competition will be announced by SUNY Ulster professor Sean Nixon.
