Harvey Named As New Mayor of Newburgh

NEWBURGH – Torrance Harvey is the new mayor of the City of Newburgh. The city council unanimously named him to fill the vacancy left by the death of Judy Kennedy.

Harvey had to resign his councilman-at-large post to be named mayor.

The new mayor said Newburgh is undergoing a renaissance.

“We must continue to clean our streets, pave our roads and commit to code enforcement within the City of Newburgh,” Harvey said. “We must also continue to seek rateables that will stimulate our economy with thriving commercial businesses so that our city residents can too enjoy meaningful employment and a better quality of life.”

He must run in November for the remaining one year of the current mayoral term.

When the council resolution was read to name him mayor, residents in the audience jumped to their feet and erupted in cheers.

Harvey has served as one of the two council members-at-large in Newburgh.

Harvey then nominated Anthony Grice as councilman-at-large to fill the vacancy created by his resignation. Grice’s nomination was also unanimously approved by council members.
