NEWBURGH – NFA Swimmer, Josh Bryant Signs Letter of Intent for Division I UCONN.
Josh Bryant is a senior at Newburgh Free Academy, North campus signed with his number one choice, UNCONN to swim for their Division I team.
Josh began swimming in 8th grade and has dedicated Fall, Winter, and Summer to training about six days a week.
Josh’s credentials include: 5 individual section titles, 7-time overall section titles, 4 top 10s at the state level, 4 school records, and 1 section record. Josh’s main strokes are the spring freestyle and the breaststroke.
In March, Josh Bryant was awarded the Section IX Sports Sportsmanship Award at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Swimming and Diving Championships.
“Josh is as nice and humble as a kid that I’ve ever had. I have the pleasure to coach a great athlete and a great man in Josh. That comes from him and his parents. They’ve been wonderful to be around and coach,” said Mr. Zachary Williams, NFA Varsity Swim Coach.
“We always told Josh to swim really fast, do great in school, and you can go wherever you want to go. We have a lot of thanks for his coaches and teammates. It has been a great ride for us,” said Mr. Darren and Mrs. Valerie Bryant.
Josh plans to study Biology and hopes to work in forensics.
Joining Josh to celebrate the occasion were his parents: Mr. Darren Bryant and Mrs. Valerie Bryant, Superintendent of Newburgh Enlarged City School District, Dr. Roberto Padilla, Mr. Matteo Doddo, co-principal of Newburgh Free Academy, North Campus, swim coaches Mr. Zachary Williams and Mr. Dave Doulin, Athletic Director, Mr. Ron Montalto, and strength trainer, Mr. Jordan Bledsoe.
