SLCH Named Top Places to Work in Healthcare

NEWBURGH – St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) has been named in Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of 2018 150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare. Becker’s recently released this exclusive list, highlighting healthcare employers for their success in employee engagement efforts, promoting diversity in the workplace and providing opportunities for professional growth for its employees.

Becker’s Hospital Review noted SLCH for its efforts in encouraging employees to grow their roots within the community it serves, specifically highlighting the hospital’s homeownership incentive program, tuition and childcare reimbursement programs and staff recognition.

St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital encourages employees in good standing to plant roots in the community by giving employees with at least one year of service a $10,975 grant to purchase a home in Newburgh. The grant is forgiven at a rate of 20 percent annually over a five-year period provided the employee continues to live in the house and work at the hospital. Employees are eligible to receive up to $6,000 per year in tuition reimbursements if they earn grades of C or better. Employees with children receive a 10 percent discount and waiver for day care registration fees. Managers give exemplary employees “Star Bucks” for exemplary service that can be redeemed at the hospital’s cafeteria and campus gift shop.

This acknowledgment comes on the heels of several other recognitions for SLCH in regards to employee engagement and satisfaction strengths. In November, the hospital was named a Great Place to Work®, which was earned as a result of extensive ratings provided by SLCH employees in anonymous surveys. Just this month, SLCH was the recipient of the National Business Research Institute Circle of Excellence Award, yet another tribute to the hospital’s strong workplace principles, as evidenced by its annual employee satisfaction survey which showcased increases in every area including community involvement, communications, management style as well as culture and climate. SLCH is the first and only employer in the Hudson Valley to be certified as a Great Place to Work®, and is the only hospital in the Hudson Valley to be included in Becker’s Top 150 Healthcare Employers list.

“This recognition is a tribute to the culture that exists throughout the organization,” said Joan Cusack-McGuirk, SLCH President and CEO. “We provide compassionate, high quality care to our patients and once again demonstrate that we are so much more than the brick and mortar. It’s the people that makes our community hospital such a Great Place to Work.”
