Gossett Accepts Lifetime Achievement Award

GREENWOOD LAKE – Actor Louis Gossett Jr. was honored with the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award in Acting. The Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe winner attended opening night ceremonies.

Gossett, 81, was thrilled to be back in Greenwood Lake where he noted many boxing greats came to train in years gone by.

“Joe Louis used to train here and Sugar Ray Robinson; a lot of boxers came and now I understand why they come here to train,” Gossett said. “It’s a beautiful environment.”

This is the second year the film festival is being held in the Village of Greenwood Lake, a part of the Town of Warwick. Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton said the festival certainly has an impact on the local community.

“I think we did see what we expected, which was people who had never been to the Town of Warwick, to the Greenwood Lake area, realizing how close it is to New York City, what a great recreational spot it is,” Sweeton said. “So, we are seeing people come. We have had some home sales on the lake, seasonal places, and that is what it is all about – generating economic development through tourism, which is one of our strong points.”

The film festival will continue through next Thursday with the awards ceremony headlined by comedian Gilbert Gottfried.
