Stewart-Cousins Sees Brighter future For NY

WALLKILL – State Senate Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D, Yonkers) is anticipating a brighter outcome for Democrats in New York next year, especially with two open Republican Senate seats in the Mid-Hudson Valley and the possibility of the Democrats capturing one or both.

Speaking to the annual dinner of the Orange County Democratic Party Sunday evening, Stewart-Cousins said she was disappointed that important issues have not yet been resolved by the legislature this year.

“We are still trying to get the Child Victims Act passed. We are, as usually, trying to get sensible gun legislation done, which we haven’t been able to do. We are still trying to get something basic like the Contraception Care Act. It has been a disappointment.”

Stewart-Cousins said the day of the Democrats in New York is here and if they win the majority of the State Senate, she would become the first female Senate majority leader in New York.

Orange County Party Chairman Brett Broge predicted that the Democratic “blue wave” will sweep the nation, state and Hudson Valley this fall.
