Felix Colon Recognized For Professionalism

MIDDLETOWN – Felix Colon, an almost 30-year employee at Regional Economic Community Action Program (RECAP), was recognized for his dedicated and compassionate service to those seeking services for substance use disorder. Colon, who works at RECAP’s New Life Manor, a halfway house located in the town of Newburgh, was awarded New York State Community Action Association’s NYSCAA Service Award at the 2018 Annual Awards Gala hosted by NYSCAA and New York State Weatherization Directors Association on Wednesday, June 17, 2018 in Albany.

Colon, 79, who is the program’s driver also serves as the resident master gardener; tending a garden which not only supplies the house with fresh vegetables all season but RECAP’s Newburgh office as well at 201 Broadway. The award recognizes community action workers who exhibit professionalism, cultural competence, and willingness to go above and beyond while pursuing the mission and values of community action. The award is presented annually in recognition of Rosemary Fleming, a former employee at the Department of State/Division of Community Services.

The New York State Community Action Association provides community action agencies with information, professional development, and technical assistance to enhance their capacity to serve as effective, responsive community resources.
