Murphy New Family Services Associate Director

POUGHKEEPSIE – Family Services is pleased to announce that Kathleen Murphy has joined the Family Services team as the Associate Director of Youth Services.

In this role, Ms. Murphy will be responsible for oversight of Elementary After School Programs, the Teen Resource Activity Center, the Summer Youth Employment Program, the Gun Involved Violence Education Project, Poughkeepsie Youth Theater, and the Child Care Center at Family Court. In addition to program oversight, Ms. Murphy will be responsible for working with the Deputy Executive Director in planning and implementing expansion of youth services and new program components. As Associate Director of Youth Services, Ms. Murphy will work closely with School District, County and City Leaders as well as the Leadership of Family Services to ensure Youth Services fulfills its mission within the community.

Ms. Murphy comes to Family Services with a wealth of experience managing youth programs, supervising staff, evaluating programs, creating collaborations, and managing contracts through her time at both the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Catharine Street Community Center. Additionally, she comes to the role with years of experience as an educator. Ms. Murphy holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Marist College and a License as a Private Career School Teacher through the New York State Department of Education. Deputy Executive Director Joan Crawford describes Ms. Murphy as a “passionate advocate for children who brings a wealth of knowledge, values and skills to this position”. CEO Brian Doyle remarked that “Family Services is fortunate to have Kathleen on the team. Her experience as a leader, educator and manager of programs for youth will assist Family Services in expanding our capacity to serve the children of the Hudson Valley.”

Family Services has been part of the community since 1879, Family Services has been making a difference in people’s lives for over 135 years. Family Services provides programs and services in the Hudson Valley such as: Youth Services, Family Programs, Victim Services, Prevention, Community Safety and the Family Partnership Center; all designed to strengthen individuals, families and community.

A key program of Family Services is the Family Partnership Center, a 100,000 + square foot center in Poughkeepsie where currently 19 not-for-profit and related organizations are brought together in partnership for the purpose of collaboration toward a unified approach to human services and building community.

The mission of Family Services is to help families and individuals help themselves through direct services, collaboration, and advocacy. Last year over 11,000 children, adults, and families benefited from Family Services programs. Family Services has programs in Dutchess, Orange and Ulster counties, as well as an affiliate, Hudson Valley Mental Health which provides behavioral health services throughout Dutchess and Ulster Counties.
