GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus announced on Monday that Deputy County Executive Wayne Booth will retire, effective February 28th, 2019.
Booth, a U.S. Marines veteran, has been Deputy County Executive since January of 2014. He previously served six two-year terms as Town of Newburgh Supervisor. Prior to that, Booth worked for eight years in the Town of Newburgh’s Building and Parks and Recreation departments.
“Wayne has played an integral role in my administration for the last five years, fulfilling his duties with professionalism and class,” Neuhaus said. “He is well-liked and respected by his peers and works effectively for the taxpayers of Orange County. It’s an honor working with Wayne and I commend him on his distinguished career in public service. I know he and his wife Terry are looking forward to his retirement.”
Added Chairman of the Legislature Steve Brescia: “Wayne has always been accessible, professional and a pleasure to work with, even when we disagree. He takes a lot of pride in his work, not only with the County, but also with the Town of Newburgh, where he is still held in high regard. Wayne always handles himself with class and I congratulate him on a wonderful career.”
Orange County Director of Operations Harry Porr will become the Deputy County Executive on Monday, August 20th, and Booth will assume the role of Director of Operations until he retires. Porr’s appointment was approved unanimously by the Legislature’s Personnel and Compensation Committee on Monday. The confirmation will go to the full Legislature at its next meeting on September 6th.
