OC Sheriff’s Office Receives NYS SWAT Team Certification

GOSHEN – Recently, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group received the prestigious SWAT Team Certification based on procedures established by the NYS Municipal Police Training Council. The NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services determined that the application submitted meets all the requirements set forth by the MPTC. The Orange County Sheriff’s SOG Team is one of only fifteen teams in New York State possessing the State Certification. Sheriff Carl E. DuBois is proud of the Special Operations Group members for their commitment and dedication to their profession. Sheriff DuBois stated, “The resources the Orange County Sheriff’s Office provides to the region are by far the best and meeting high standards such as the SWAT Team Certification coupled with NYS and CALEA Accreditations are a testament to the great team we have at the Sheriff’s Office.” The Sheriff’s Team has collaborated with teams such as the NY State Police SORT (Special Operations Response Team) and the FBI’s HRT (Hostage Response Team).

The SWAT Team Certification is valid for a period of two years while keeping with the standards set forth by the MPTC. After the standards are met through the initial two years the certification is extended to five-year periods.

The Special Operations Group consists of SWAT Operators and Tactical Members that render support to the Patrol and Corrections Divisions as well as local law enforcement, by utilizing capabilities ranging from high risk warrant execution and active shooter incidents
to cell extractions and crowd control. SOG personnel provide training to other police agencies and provide risk review and training for houses of worship, schools and businesses, free of charge.
