First Transcarotid Artery Revascularization in O.C.

MIDDLETOWN – On Monday, September 17, Crystal Run Healthcare Vascular Surgeons John A. Fiorianti, MD, FACS and Anthony L. Rios, MD, RPVI and Vascular Physician Assistants, Karyn Robertson PA-C and Iris Swiderski MPAS, PA-C, successfully performed the first Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) procedure in Orange County, NY using the ENROUTE® Transcarotid Neuroprotection and Stent System by Silk Road Medical. TCAR is a new, minimally invasive procedure for patients that have carotid stenosis and are at risk for having a stroke. During the procedure, blood flow is temporarily reversed to keep the flow of debris away from the patients’ brain while a stent is inserted. The operation was performed at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY with the assistance of their surgical staff.

Led by fellowship-trained vascular doctors and surgeons, Crystal Run’s Vascular Surgery Division treats diseases of the vascular system, involving the artery and veins, using non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures as often as possible. Specializing in areas such as cerebrovascular disease, aneurysms, dialysis access, peripheral artery disease, and varicose veins treatment, the goal is to treat these diseases with the best options to maintain long-term vascular health.

“The TCAR procedure revolutionizes how we eliminate stroke-causing blockages of the carotid arteries. This procedure is safe, minimally-invasive and can be done without the need for general anesthesia. We are absolutely excited to bring the state-of-the-art in stroke prevention to Orange County.,” said John A. Fiorianti, MD, FACS and Anthony L. Rios, MD, RPVI, Vascular Surgeons at Crystal Run Healthcare.
