Mount Sweeps Notre Dame (Md.), Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Volleyball team moved its winning streak to four matches on Saturday with a pair of 3-0 sweeps. The Knights dispatched of Notre Dame (Md.) by scores of 29-27, 25-18 and 25-15 before sweeping the host Cyclones by scores of 25-9, 25-23 and 25-15. Junior Morgan Burke total 21 kills over the two matches for the Knights.

Mount Saint Mary 3 – Notre Dame (Md.) 0
In a marathon opening set against Notre Dame, the Mount broke a 27-27 tie with consecutive kills from Burke and Danielle Kralik. The Mount produced four more kills than the Gators in the middle frame to open a 2-0 lead before hitting .250 in the deciding frame to close out the win.

Burke led the Mount in the win with nine kills to go along with three blocks, while classmate Madelyn Barberan contributed eight winners and added 11 digs.

Emily Mazzurco put away seven kills in the win with Kralik chipping in with six winners. Kralik lifted 11 digs in the win for the Mount, while Mazzurco contributed two blocks to the winning effort.

Senior Kim Gries handed out 32 assists and finished off a double-double with 12 digs. Gries joined Kralik with a team-high three service aces. Klaire Wall lifted 12 digs, matching the team-high in the category.

Notre Dame was led by eight kills from Alyssa Kearns with Mary Marquez lifting a match-high 19 digs. Richelle Taganas handed out 19 assists and lifted five digs.
Mount Saint Mary finished the match with a 34-27 advantage in kills and an 8-5 edge in service aces. The Knights controlled the blocking game with a 5-0 advantage in total team blocks.

Mount Saint Mary 3 – Centenary 0
The Knights closed out their second win of the day and fourth straight overall by jumping out to a fast start against the Cyclones. The Mount hit a blistering .500 in the opening set, putting away nine kills. The Knights put away 12 more kills in the middle stanza to take a two set advantage and held Centenary to a -.172 attack percentage in the closing frame to finish off the win.

Burke reached double-figures in kills for the fifth time this season, leading the team with 12 while hitting an efficient .579 in the contest. She closed out a big day with three service aces and a pair of total blocks.

Kralik put away six more kills in the win and led the Mount with nine digs. Alyssa Barbara handed out a career-high 15 assists in the match, while Wall posted a match-high seven service aces to go along with six digs.

Centenary was paced by three kills from a trio of players, including Katie Alvarez who lifted a match-high 11 digs. Melissa Krueger led the way with eight assists.

Mount Saint Mary finished the contest with a 27-14 edge in kills and a 2-1 edge in total team blocks. The Mount dominated the service game with a 16-1 advantage in aces.
