Knights Dominate Old Westbury On Senior Day

NEWBURGH – Four different players netted a goal for the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Soccer team as it cruised to a 5-0 victory against Old Westbury on Senior Day. The win extends the Mount’s winning streak to nine consecutive games.

Senior Maeve O’Sullivan scored twice on her senior day, scoring in the 19th minute and the 55th minute. Fellow Seniors Claire Newman and Emma Costa also got in on the scoring for the Knights. Newman buried a penalty kick in at the 19:38 mark of the match and Costa started the scoring at 15:59 on a cross from Ashley Hunter.

Theresa Stinson and Gina Rivera each recorded an assist, continuing their tie for the team lead in points with 16. O’Sullivan’s two goals moves into a tie for the team lead in goals with seven.

The Knights dominated the game throughout by outshooting the Panthers 41-1. They also held the shots on goal advantage by a count of 23-1. The corner kicks advantage of 10-0 went to the Knights as well.

Cassidy Rykowski picked up her ninth victory of the season as she posted a shutout in goal. She made one save on the day. Alexa Higgins made 18 saves in goal for the Panthers.

Saturday’s win moves the Mount to 12-4-1 overall for the season and 8-0-0 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is the final regular season contest on the road against Farmingdale State on Wednesday. Kick-off with the Rams is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
