Blue Knights Finish Sixth at Diamond City Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, PA. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Swimming team finished the two-day Diamond City Invitational on Sunday with a sixth place finish and 272 total points. Kyra McNamee, Katie Barber, Daley O’Keefe and Shayla McCarroll all produced top-10 individual finishes on Sunday.

McNamee picked up the team’s best individual finish on Sunday, posting a third place showing in the 1,650-yard freestyle. She finished the final event of the competition in a time of 19:00.58 and was one of three Knights to pick up points in the event. O’Keefe also finished within the top-10 in the race, swimming to an eighth place finish in 19:32.98.

Barber rounded out the day with a fourth place finish for the Mount in the 200-yard butterfly, while McCarroll placed ninth in the 200-yard backstroke. Barber swam a time of 2:24.32, narrowly missing her own school record of 2:.23.83, while McCarroll posted a time of 2:20.09.

O’Keefe added an 12th place finish for the Mount in the 200-yard backstroke with Samantha Gangemi following in the 15th position. O’Keefe produced a time of 2:23.22, while Gangemi finished up in 2:27.56.

Jillian Bunch finished 13th in the 100-yard freestyle on Sunday, while Taylor Hollis placed 15th in the 200-yard breaststroke and Sophia Reinhardt finished 16th in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Bunch posted a time of 58.55 seconds, with Hollis and Reinhardt swimming times of 2:52.61 and 21:38.76, respectively.

The Mount picked up fifth place points on Sunday in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the only relay event of the day. The quartet of McNamee, McCarroll, O’Keefe and Bunch touched out in a time of 3:55.0.

The University of Scranton won the team event with a point total of 658, topping by King’s (Pa.) by 56 points.

The Mount will return to action on December 1 when it welcomes Hunter to the Kaplan Center Pool for a non-conference dual meet. Events with the Hawks are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
