O.C. Fuel Fund Accepting Applications

MIDDLETOWN – Orange County residents needing assistance with home heating expenses may be eligible for help through the Orange County Fuel Fund. The Fund is accepting applications for the 2018-2019 heating season. Administered by Regional Economic Community Action Program (RECAP), the program provides low- to moderate-income households a one-time payment per heating season to a heating provider.

The Fuel Fund was established in 2007 and is funded through Orange County Department of Social Services. The program administers payment for fuel types including electric, natural gas, kerosene, oil, and propane. Last season the Fund distributed $35,000 in heating assistance and provided 760 Orange County households with resources to stay warm.

The program is open to Orange County residents and targets households who do not qualify for HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program). Income and household restrictions apply, and documentation is required. The Fund is not for emergency purposes and operates on a first come, first served basis.

Eligibility and application information can be obtained online at www.ocfuelfund.org or by calling (845) 421-6255. Applications can be emailed to manager@ocfuelfund.org or mailed to RECAP, Attn: O.C. Fuel Fund, 40 Smith Street, Middletown, NY 10940. The fund is open until March 15, 2019 or until funds are exhausted.
