Mount Saint Mary Excels At Wagner Invitational

Staten Island – The Mount Saint Mary College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams opened the 2019 portion of the Indoor Season on Friday with a strong showing at the Wagner Invitational. Sophomore Samantha Papadopoulos finished the day with a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles.

Papadopoulos broke the 60-meter hurdles school record in the first event of the day. Her time of 10.49 seconds was good enough for 12th overall at the Division I Wagner Invitational. Papadopoulos also came back in the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 2:44.86.

Valerie Lupi was impressive in the women’s weight throw with a toss of 8.57 meters as the top Knight for the day for the women’s team.

Alexandra Salamone was the women’s top shot putter on the day with a toss of 10.12 meters and Alexis Papadopoulos had a personal best showing in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.11 seconds, going on to win her heat in the process.

For the men, freshman Kenneth Barrett ran a 2:05.86 in the 800-meter run to break into the top-20 overall. Senior Peter Zecchin was the men’s top shot putter on the day at 10.67 meters, while Nick Murphy was the top male in the 60-meter dash at 7.51 seconds and in the 200-meters at 24.51 seconds. Sean Farrell had a nice run in the 800-meters for the Knights with a time of 2:12.08.

Mount Saint Mary continues the Indoor Season on January 26 with a trip to the Utica Invitational.
