State Senator Jen Metzger Sworn Into Office

On the night of January 2, 2019, surrounded by 300 family, friends, constituents and colleagues, Senator Jen Metzger (SD-42) took the oath of office, administered by the Honorable Sandra B. Sciortino – Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, 9th Judicial District.

The full hour program included Middletown Mayor Joe DeStefano serving as Master of Ceremonies, invocations from Pastor Rolfi Elivo and Rabbi Marcus Rubenstein, the swearing in of Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, musical performances by BLOOM and singer-songwriter Kelleigh McKenzie, and a congratulatory speech from Senate Majority Leader, Andrea Stewart-Cousins.

Other elected officials present included Senator James Skoufis, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec, Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobs, Ulster County Comptroller Elliott Auerbach and town supervisors, mayors and council members from towns and villages across Ulster, Sullivan, Orange and Delaware Counties.

“I am truly looking forward to working with you, with our farmers and small businesses, with our brothers and sisters in labor, with community organizations, and with our schools and local governments to help our towns and cities, our villages and hamlets, thrive,” Senator Metzger said in her speech to the standing room only crowd. “Working together, we can make a positive difference in our communities and in people’s lives. I am deeply honored to have this opportunity to serve you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

The crowd gathered afterwards at a local pub to continue the celebration.

Jen Metzger represents the 42nd Senate District which includes all of Sullivan County and parts of Delaware, Orange, and Ulster Counties. She serves as Chair of the Agriculture Committee.
