NEWBURGH – On February 5, 2019, The City of Newburgh Democratic Committee voted unanimously in favor of a Municipal ID program for Newburgh residents. Proposed by Orange County Legislator Kevindaryán Luján and City Council member Ramona Monteverde, the Municipal ID program would empower the City of Newburgh to issue photo identification cards to Newburgh residents who lack other forms of government identification.
“A Municipal ID program will lead to a more unified community, increase public safety, strengthen police-community relations and boost the local economy,” Luján explained.
“This will have a positive impact on many of our residents, including immigrants, domestic violence survivors, seniors, formerly incarcerated individuals, homeless individuals, and transgender individuals,” Monteverde added.
Similar programs have been adopted throughout the Hudson Valley, including in Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Beacon and Middletown.

The City of Newburgh Democratic Committee unanimously supports the City Council’s Resolution to approve a Municipal ID Program.
