Jacobson to Open Poughkeepsie Office

POUGHKEEPSIE – Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh), representing the 104th Assembly District which includes the City of Poughkeepsie, has announced plans to set up an office in the city.

At a ceremonial swearing-in at Poughkeepsie City Hall at the end of January, Jacobson addressed the need for accessibility to both he and his staff without traveling to Newburgh and said it makes sense to have an office in Poughkeepsie.

“I thought it was essential in order to provide accessible services to the residents of Poughkeepsie,” said Jacobson who hopes to have the office opened on March 1st.

The freshman lawmaker said he will have regularly scheduled hours in which staffers will be present and he plans to spend time in the office as well. On why he chose to set up space in Poughkeepsie, Jacobson said “I wouldn’t expect people to travel all the way to Newburgh to meet with me or my staff!”

The announcement was made in front of a full audience in the council chambers and was met with a round of applause. Among those excited about the news is City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Robert Rolison who welcomed it. “To have that district office literally right around the corner from city hall really can help us with our collaboration” noting that his administration has worked well with all state representatives including the late Frank Skartados who held Jacobson’s position before passing away due to cancer.

Council Member Natasha Cherry who emceed the event was very excited about Jacobson setting up an office at 1 Civic Center Plaza, at the corner of Main and Market Streets. The Barney Building as it’s known has several tenants including the regional office for the New York State Attorney General and the Workers’ Compensation Board. “I think Jonathan opening a Poughkeepsie office is, first of all, a great idea for Jonathan. It’s long overdue. I think it would help put Poughkeepsie on the map with Albany. Now our residents will be able to walk directly to the office of the assemblyman.”
