Washingtonville Students Recognized By BOE

WASHINGTONVILLE – Washingtonville Central School District (WCSD) students of all grade levels were recognized by the Board of Education on Monday, March 18. Student athletes and musicians were identified for their accomplishments and feats this year.

Wrestlers Andrew Marchese (99-lb weight class category) and Tommy Maddox (132-lb weight class) were recognized for being Section IX Champions and State Qualifiers. Awards were also given to the following Swimming State Qualifiers: Owen Rowlands, 200 IM and Sportsmanship Award winner; Andrew Smolar, 200 Free and 500 Free Qualifier; and Jackson Vinarub, Diving. The following Indoor Track State qualifying athletes were recognized: Jared Davidson, 55-Meter Section IX Champion; Cameron Aviles, Jared Davidson, Sean Quinn, and T.J. Snyder, 4 x 200 IM Relay Section IX Champions; Nicholas Mirecki, Pole Vault; Kristina Messler, 1500-Meter; Tom Garrison, 1600-Meter; and Lorenzo Castro, 1000-Meter Intersectional Relay.

More than 140 Washingtonville choir and band students from various grade levels were also recognized by the Board of Education. These student musicians auditioned and were selected either All-State, Area All-State, All-County Festival, or other honor ensembles such as New York State Band Directors Association Honor Band and Hudson Valley Honor Band. Students were announced individually and received an award in their name.

“WCSD is made up of an array of student talent, and we are proud to recognize them for their accomplishments. The students impress me every day,” states WCSD Superintendent Roy Reese. “We are grateful of the many opportunities beyond the basic classroom experience that the Washingtonville voters support for our students. Opportunities to pursue athletics and music enrich the experience for students and create well-rounded citizens.”
