Alexis Papadopoulos Sets School Record

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Outdoor Track and Field concluded its season on Thursday evening at the ECAC Championship with an eighth place finish. The Knights finished eighth with 43 points out of 21 participating schools.

Samantha Papadopoulos set a new school record in the 400 meter hurdles as she finished fifth with a time of 1:10.48, surpassing her own record set last season of 1:10.64. She also finished tied for seventh in the high jump with a jump of 1.38 meters.

The Knights 4×100 relay team of Alexis Papadopoulos, Gabriella Antich, Jenna Zeller and Michelle Gildea ran a strong time of 55.49 to finish fifth in the relay.

In the field events on Thursday, Alexandra Salamone closed a strong season with an eighth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 10.83 meters and finished with a 28.45 meter throw in the discus. Antich finished right behind Salamone in the discus throw with a 27.89 meter toss.

Rutgers-Newark finished the meet with a team victory with 132 points while Keene State finished second with 66 points. Mount Saint Mary finished eighth with 43 points, just behind Penn State-Harrisburg who had 46 points.

“The women had a great 2 days, so grateful for them. I thought Gildea had a great last meet of her career, Diamond Umunna had a nice run in the 5K, the four women in the steeplechase did fantastic, and S. Papdopoulos really stepped up and delivered for us, scoring in five individual different events over two days is not easy at all, her athleticism showed. So proud of the entire women’s team this year and the effort they put in.” said Head Coach Fred Callo.
