Local Hospital Named Top Places to Work

NEWBURGH – Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) has been named again in Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of 150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare. This is the second consecutive year that MSLC has received this recognition, which was recently released by Becker’s earlier this week. This exclusive list highlights hospitals, health systems and healthcare companies that promote diversity within the workforce, employee engagement and professional growth.

Becker’s Hospital Review noted MSLC for its efforts in celebrating the diversity of its workforce, including the hospital’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee which was established to address the cultural evolvement of both its employees and patients.

“The committee organizes events for employees, such as potluck luncheons, chef spotlights highlighting traditional cuisines and family photo boards,” as stated in Becker’s Top 150 List announcement on May 21. MSLC was also recognized for its support of professional growth amongst employees, having granted close to $200,000 in tuition reimbursement in 2017.

This recognition is one of several other accreditations that the Hudson Valley based hospital has received for its employee engagement efforts. In late 2018, MSLC received the Great Place to Work® certification for the second year in a row, which was earned as a result of the extensive and overwhelmingly positive ratings by MSLC employees in anonymous surveys.

In addition, MSLC was a 2018 recipient of the National Business Research Institute Circle of Excellence Award, which is another recognition of the hospital’s strong workplace principles, along with the overall culture and climate that it creates for its workforce. Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall is a member of the Montefiore Health System and is the only hospital in the Hudson Valley to be included in Becker’s Top 150 Healthcare Employers List. Other recipients include the Mayo Clinic, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and New York Presbyterian.

“This award recognizes the amazing culture that exists throughout our community hospital,” said Joan Cusack-McGuirk, MSLC President and CEO. “We are proud to provide high quality, compassionate care to our patients and this award is a tribute to our workforce, each of whom demonstrate 365 days a year that we are so much more than the brick and mortar. It is the people that make our organization such a great place to work.”
