Washingtonville Middle School Hosts Veterans Dinner

WASHINGTONVILLE – On June 7, the Washingtonville Middle School Junior Community Service Club hosted the 4th Annual Veterans Dinner, an appreciation event for the community’s veterans.

The event, organized under the leadership of Club President Yanilisa Nicholas and Vice President Andrew Jones, brought attendees back in time to the 1950s with decorations that included a diner booth, a handmade jukebox, and a slew of old records. Students sporting ‘50s attire served themed drinks, dinners, and desserts.

Veterans enjoyed games, raffles, and skits performed by club members. Highlights of the evening included the Color Guard by the Washingtonville High School JROTC, a “Guess that ‘50s TV Show” game, spirited renditions of “Good Morning, Baltimore” and “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” and an energetic dance number set to the music of “Happy Days.”

The event would not have been possible without local sponsors, including T & M II GO and Betty’s Country Kitchen. Thanks are also due to Mystic Cafe, Villa Mexicana, Corner Candle Shop, F&J Pizzeria, and Chicken or the Egg, which donated prizes for the raffle. Special thanks also go out to Bob Gellman from the Washingtonville Central School District’s Food Service department, for cooking and supporting the dinner.
