NEWBURGH – As the summer is winding down, Mount Saint Mary College student-athletes and coaches are gearing up for pre-season.
But many of them have continued to practice their skills over the summer – by mentoring other young athletes.
The Mount’s Athletics Department hosted more than a dozen sports camps this summer for students ages 7-17. Members of the community had the opportunity to select from weeklong camps in basketball, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, and swimming, all run by Mount coaches and student-athletes.
Around 350 local youths benefitted from the athletic instruction, mentorship, and team building.
“Our summer camps provide a great opportunity for young athletes to come and learn the basic fundamentals in their sport from college coaches,” said Trevor Purcell, assistant director of Athletics. “It is a great way for the Mount Saint Mary College Athletics Department to serve the community and develop our future student-athletes.”
