KINGSTON – Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of a new permanent exhibit in the Archives Gallery which was made possible by a $23,859.00 grant from the New York State Archives Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund. Please join the Ulster County Clerk at the Archives Gallery on the 2nd floor of the Ulster County Office Building, 244 Fair Street, Kingston on Friday, September 6 at 2:00 pm for the opening ceremony.
One of the primary goals of the Ulster County Clerk’s Archives Division is to provide knowledge of and access to the various Archival Records Collections available. In fulfilling this goal, the County Clerk’s office is proud to present a new permanent exhibit in the Archives Gallery. The new exhibit shows a broad sampling of the archival record series that are available to the public, with the intent to increase the ability to service the public who are interested in archival records, genealogy, history, Dutch culture and more.
As the Official Filer for the County since 1658, the Ulster County Clerk’s Office holds a vast array of historical documents that are useful and critical to the understanding of the history of this area and they are accessed by researches, educators, scholars, students, authors, historians, genealogists, and others. “The historical quality of the records showing the settling of the County to Revolutionary War to Naturalization Records cannot be overstated,” said County Clerk Postupack. “The records in the County Clerk Archives provide the public with a historical quality that is not duplicated elsewhere. We are so proud that the New York State Archives has provided us with this opportunity to showcase the vast records available in the County’s Archives.”
This project was made possible through a competitive grant awarded to the Ulster County Clerk’s Office in the 2018-2019 grant cycle from the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF) administered by the New York State Archives. The LGRMIF was established in 1989 and provides funds to help local governments with a variety of records management related programs and projects. Exhibit design was completed by 2K Design, with custom fabrication provided by Creatacor, Inc.
