Round Hill Elementary School Welcomes New Asst. Principal

WASHINGTONVILLE – Round Hill Elementary School welcomed Mayda Amabile as its new Assistant Principal on August 5. During Mrs. Amabile’s first year, she looks forward to establishing relationships and building trust with faculty, staff, students, families, and the community at large. “I want to learn what’s important to everyone and how I can help support them,” she said.

Mrs. Amabile comes to Round Hill Elementary School from the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, where she was an Assistant Principal at Vails Gate STEAM Academy. She previously worked for the Enlarged City School District of Middletown, the Elmsford Union Free School District, and the New York City Department of Education as a teacher in different capacities.
The longtime educator is a graduate of Manhattan College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She then received a Master’s of Science in Elementary Education from Mercy College and her certificate of advanced studies in Educational Leadership and Administration from the College of St. Rose.

“Since assuming my position, I’ve noticed that Washingtonville has a rich history. I have had the opportunity to meet some people already, and it’s evident that Washingtonville is a tight knit, supportive, and accepting community,” she said. “For me, that’s inspiring, because all of those elements are critical to child development. I’m excited to be a part of a District that’s like that.”

According to Round Hill Elementary School Principal Steve Kiel, Mrs. Amabile will be an asset to the school’s administration. “Mrs. Amabile is a wonderful addition to our school community,” he said. “With her teaching and administrative experiences and her warm demeanor, I believe she will be very successful and do well at Washingtonville. We are glad she is here.”

“I have only been here three weeks and I’m already being welcomed with open arms,” enthused Mrs. Amabile. “That speaks to how the District receives students and that alone solidifies that I’m in the right place.”

Mrs. Amabile resides in Middletown with her family. She has four children: two who are enrolled in Middletown High School, one who serves in the Navy, and one who attends school in Florida.
