Annual MSLC Hospital Gala Brings a Record Turnout

NEWBURGH – The St. Luke’s Cornwall Health System Foundation hosted its annual gala on Saturday, September 7 at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor. This year’s event brought a record turnout for “An Evening in Emerald City” with more than 530 guests in attendance.

Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall’s (MSLC) annual celebration raised more than $260,000 in net proceeds, including more than $20,000 worth of revenue generated from the silent auction.

The 2019 gala honorees included Newburgh Free Academy, as the Community Committee award recipient. The award, accepted by Dr. Roberto Padilla, Superintendent of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District was given in recognition of NFA’s dedication and ability to facilitate numerous community wide initiatives, not only benefitting its students but also the community at large. These programs include Scholars in Scrubs in partnership with the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, Mount Saint Mary College and Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall, teaching the fundamentals of health care to young students; the P-TECH program, providing students, many of which have interned at MSLC, the opportunity to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree; along with the Certified Nursing Assistant Program, which received formal verification by New York State earlier this year.

“We are so proud to partner with Dr. Padilla, Newburgh Free Academy and the entire Newburgh Enlarged City School District,” said Joan Cusack-McGuirk, MSLC President and CEO. “The work being done by this incredible group of leaders and educators, is not only shaping the academic lives of its students, but teaching them the fundamentals of the world outside that awaits them upon graduation. It was an honor to recognize the NFA team.”

The MSLC Cardiovascular Institute received the Outstanding Caregiver Award, in recognition of the advances in medicine and overall commitment to the patients that the hospital’s cardiac team provides 365 days per year. The Institute , led by Medical Director Dr. Anthony Patrello, and Dr. Mark Greenberg with Clinical oversight of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab is comprised of more than 35 professionals across the community specializing in cardiac care.

The hospital first opened the doors of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab in 2005, and since that time, Cardiovascular Services have undergone significant transformation and growth. Through integration with the Montefiore Health System, MSLC continues to provide high-quality care with advanced technologies and can connect patients with a national healthcare leader should patients require more acute care.

“The Cardiovascular Institute provides an invaluable service to our community, caring for our loved ones, neighbors and all of those we are privileged to serve at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall,” said Cusack-McGuirk. “Throughout the years, Cardiac Services at MSLC have grown by leaps and bounds, we’ve enhanced our technologies and have maintained the compassionate community care that this incredible team is known for. Congratulations to the amazing doctors, nurses, radiologists, technologists and the entire team!”

“We are so proud to have honored these four individuals,” said Cusack-McGuirk. “I would also like to thank our 2019 Gala Chair, Jill Cappa and the entire Gala Committee for all of their dedication and hard work toward this event.”
