NEWBURGH – The president of the Newburgh-Highland Falls NAACP has died.
Caesar Raynor, Jr., 73, passed away Saturday night, said Ray Harvey, acting president of the civil right organization.
Harvey said Raynor was a leader for equality for all.
“He helped bring the branch back, but just that. He was fighting to the last breathe to try to get equal jobs for black and brown skinned kids here in the City of Newburgh with the trade unions,” he said.
Harvey, who will assume the leadership role for Raynor’s full term, said a state grant has been awarded for a pre-apprentice program for inner city young people and women.
Raynor was a building contractor by trade.
