GAMS Prepares Students for Leadership Roles

NEWBURGH – Gidney Avenue Memorial School, a Leader in Me School, is continually working on a shared vision-to prepare today’s student to become tomorrow’s leaders. This was evident on Thursday, October 17th as GAMS continued to support its efforts around developing leaders aligned to the American School Counseling (ASCA) National Standards for career development. Through a series of activities including a Job Fair earlier this month, followed by personal job interviews students acquired skills, attitudes and knowledge enabling students to make a successful transition from school to the world of work, and from job to job across the life span. 236 students in grades 3-5 interviewed for over 25 jobs.

The entire staff was involved in this program. Students explored various jobs, developed awareness of personal abilities, skills and interests, learned how to complete a job application, prepare for a job interview and understand the importance of responsibility, dependability, punctuality and effort in the work place. All students will be assigned a prospective job in the GAMS community which they will maintain throughout the school year.
