Army West Point Topped by No. 18 Arizona State

TEMPE, ARIZ. – The Army West Point women’s basketball team fell to No. 18 Arizona State Sunday evening at Desert Financial Arena, 83-51.

The contest marked Dave Magarity’s 400th game as head coach of the Black Knights. The program’s all-time leader in wins, he owns a record of 248-152 (.620) now in his 14th year at Army.

Despite the result, both teams shot nearly identical percentages from the field with Arizona State shooting 43.0 percent and Army connecting on 40.4 percent of their shots. The Sun Devils created separation with second chance points, as they finished with 32.

For the second consecutive game Lindsey Scamman reached double figures. The 29 Palms, Calif., native registered a team-high 12 points.

Army attempted a total of 24 free throws, knocking down 16.

The Cadets had 18 points off the bench, led by Libby Tacka’s seven.

Freshmen Hope Brown and Espi Varoz each registered their first collegiate points.

This marked just the second all-time meeting between the two schools. The only other time the two had clashed was on Dec. 20, 2011, when the Sun Devils won, 83-46, in Tempe.
