Grace Smith House Names New Director

POUGHKEEPSIE – Grace Smith House (GSH), a well-respected provider of shelter, advocacy, and support for victims of domestic violence has named Dr. Branka Bryan as the new executive director after an extensive search. GSH was assisted in the search for the new director by the Dyson Foundation and the New York Council of Nonprofits.

Dr. Bryan’s appointment will become effective on December 2. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Bryan has been serving as the interim executive director since April of this year. Bryan is well-versed in the operations of GSH, having been with the organization for a decade. Prior to being named as interim executive director, Dr. Bryan held the post of director of outreach and support services.

On being named executive director, Dr. Bryan said “I look forward to continuing the important work of Grace Smith House, advancing our mission enabling victims and survivors to live free from domestic violence.” Dr. Bryan continued, adding “While we work to develop new and innovative approaches for meeting the needs of domestic violence victims and survivors, we will also be sure to maintain the high quality of our current services.”

Dr. Bryan’s appointment was praised by Barbara Mauri, chair of the GSH Board of Directors.

“Branka’s years of experience working with victims of domestic violence and mentoring the staff and volunteers at Grace Smith House are a tremendous asset to the 38-year-old organization.” Mauri added “I know I speak for the entire board in welcoming Branka as our new executive director. We have every confidence in her and her staff, and their commitment to the organization to better serve our clients and the community.”
