NEWBURGH – With great food and friends, the Mount Saint Mary College chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) had much to be thankful for.
The club recently served a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings for a dozen “Littles” and 15 “Bigs.”
The celebration “reminded our ‘Littles’ to take a few moments to reflect and be thankful for at least one thing in their lives every day,” explained Deirdre Duffy of Montvale, N.J., president of the club. She added that “families come in all shapes and sizes. No matter where we come from, we can all come together and celebrate the many things we’re thankful for.”
The children will be spending Thanksgiving with their families, but the dinner gave them a chance to enjoy the holiday with their BBBS family as well.
Through get-togethers like this throughout the semester, the “Littles” form a lasting bond with their Mount “Bigs.”
The BBBS volunteer mentor program is both rewarding and heart-warming as college students invest their time with underprivileged children. Serving as mentors and role models, members experience the power of friendship that stems from the connection they make.
