RHINEBECK – The board of directors of Astor Services for Children & Families has appointed Yvette Bairan as its chief executive officer (CEO) effective January 6, 2020. Ms. Bairan has been serving as interim CEO of Astor, after former CEO, James McGuirk, PhD., stepped into a new role as president of The Children’s Foundation of Astor in July 2019.
A dedicated employee of Astor for 11 years, Ms. Bairan had previously served as chief quality and compliance officer. The organization conducted a search process involving a board search committee, with assistance from a professional executive search firm.
“After a thorough CEO search and selection process, it was clear that Yvette possesses the passion, values, skills and experience vital to leading our organization and to magnifying our impact,” said Dr. James Regan, interim board chair for Astor. “With Yvette at the helm of our dedicated staff, the children and families entrusted to Astor will continue to receive top level care and attention, as proven by her leadership during the transition and search process.”
A seasoned member of the nonprofit’s team, Ms. Bairan brings years of experience to the table, and is highly regarded by her colleagues. She will oversee Astor Services in strategically dealing with the changing environment of government funding and will work to increase private philanthropic support for the organization.
“After 11 years working at Astor in various capacities, it is an honor and privilege to have been offered the position of CEO by our board of directors,” said Ms. Bairan. “While serving as interim CEO over the past six months, it became increasingly evident that Astor’s work with children and families is more critical than ever. Partnering with our dedicated staff and supporters to continue and expand Astor’s meaningful work is a great opportunity that I am humbled to accept.”
Msgr. Kevin Sullivan, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, expressed his support for the new CEO: “I am pleased to welcome Yvette Bairan as the newest member of the talented and dedicated group of CEOs who lead Catholic Charities agencies. Astor is a premier Catholic Charities agency and I am grateful for the work of the board in selecting Ms. Bairan to lead it.”
