Army Black Knights Top Charleston Southern, 9-2

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Thanks to seven-run sixth inning and a gem on the mound from Emily Iannotti, Army West Point softball bested Charleston Southern, 9-2, Sunday at the CSU Softball Complex to pick up its third straight victory.

The contest was low-scoring early on with the Buccaneers (3-7) holding a slight 1-0 lead through the first five innings of play. Though, the Black Knights’ (8-7) bats came to life in the top of the sixth with Army scoring seven runs before there was an out recorded in the inning.

For the first five innings of play, the contest had the makings of a pitcher’s duel. Army had just three hits and the lone run of the contest came on an RBI double off the bat of Brooklynn Brewington.

After surrendering the run, Iannotti and the Black Knights recorded seven straight outs.
Army’s bats came to life in the top of the sixth with the Cadets registering seven runs.
With the bases loaded and with no outs, Snelling cleared the bases with an RBI double out to center field. In the next at bat, Snelling came around to score from second with Ballesteros registering an RBI double of her own.

After Drayton reached on a error, Duong blasted a three-run shot over the center field wall to make the score 7-1.

The Buccaneers got one run back in the bottom of the sixth with a home run off the bat of Mallory Kasinger to cut Army’s lead to five.

The Blacks tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh to push ahead 9-2 thanks to a 2 RBI single from Drayton.
