New Bachelor Degree Program is Launched

On January 24th, Hudson Link and Mount Saint Mary College made history by launching a brand new Bachelor’s degree program for men at Shawangunk Correctional Facility.

Mount Saint Mary College, who will offer a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, join longtime associate degree partners SUNY Ulster in serving students at this facility.

In June of last year, eleven men at Shawangunk were the first Hudson Link students to graduate with an associate degree from SUNY Ulster. As of this semester, Mount Saint Mary professors will begin teaching these graduates along with others who have earned associate degrees with one of the many wonderful college-in-prison programs operating across the state. It is our goal that men registered for these courses will be able to complete their Bachelor’s degree in two years.

“The first associate degree cohort had no examples of men at this facility who had already achieved the success we were pursuing,” one graduate now entering the Bachelor’s program told his classmates at student orientation. “It is our cohort’s hope that we can be that example for the rest of you guys who are chasing your own college dream.”
Everyone at Hudson Link is wishing the best of luck to our Bachelor’s students in their first semester of this new adventure, and extend sincere thanks to our partners at Mount Saint Mary College, SUNY Ulster, and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
