City of Newburgh Severs Ties With PD Chief

NEWBURGH – Douglas Solomon is officially no longer police chief in the City of Newburgh, City Manager Joseph Donat announced.

Solomon was suspended in early April, but has since resigned from his job, the manager said.
Solomon joined the Newburgh Police Department in February 2018 after serving as chief of the Beacon City Police Department across the Hudson River.

Prior to that, Solomon was police chief in the Village of Monticello for several years. He also served as mayor of Monticello until two years ago.

Newburgh city officials would not provide specifics reasons for Solomon’s resignation.
Since he was relieved of his duty, Lt. Kevin Lahar was named officer in charge.

The city had hoped to seek applicants for the police job; however, a state civil service test was put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic essentially causing a shutdown of the economy.
