Farmers Market Moves to OC Government Center

GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus has announced that the Goshen Chamber of Commerce’s popular Farmers Market has moved from the Goshen Village Square to the County’s Government Center.

“We are excited to partner with the Goshen Chamber of Commerce to host the Goshen Farmers Market, which is an institution in the village,” Neuhaus said. “The Goshen Farmers Market and other markets throughout Orange County are important to our farming families, providing us with fresh, healthy produce to ensure a sustainable Orange County. I hope residents will continue to support our local farm stands and markets this summer.”

The Goshen Farmers Market, which will be located at the corner of Main and Erie Streets, will open for the season on Friday, May 29th. The Market will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every Friday until October, 30th rain or shine. A special hour of shopping for seniors has been added from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Barbara Martinez, Executive Director of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce, said that market hours will be extended to 5:00 p.m. when Orange County is no longer observing Governor Cuomo’s New York PAUSE. Patrons are encouraged to social distance and wear masks as the County continues to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Martinez also suggested that residents visit goshennychamber.com for COVID-19 specific guidelines for the market.

“We are extremely grateful to have the support of County Executive Neuhaus,” Martinez said. “Recognizing the importance of the farmers market and the need to provide a safe environment for our vendors and our customers, he stepped up and made it possible for the Chamber to provide some semblance of normalcy to the community. We look forward to another amazing season on the county property.”

Countywide, there are more than a dozen markets to explore when the season is in full swing. Each has their own unique offerings and variety of vendors who take pride in their homegrown products. In addition to farm fresh fruits and vegetables, there is a wide array of artisan dairy products, gourmet prepared foods, adult craft beverages, honey, locally raised meats, cut flowers, live plants and more available for purchase. Many markets also feature live music to set the mood for a fun, family-friendly shopping experience.

Farmers markets support a $100 million dollar agricultural industry in Orange County, stimulating the local economy and creating jobs. Approximately 16 percent of the county’s land is farmland and over 10,000 acres are used in vegetable production, which is the third-largest in the state.

“Farmers markets offer a great way to eat healthy and meet our neighbors who are growing the produce that we put on our tables for our families,” Neuhaus added. “Although it will be a new location and will have COVID-19 requirements in place, we’re glad to see the Goshen Farmers Market happening this season.” For a full listing of Orange County farms and farmers markets, visit orangetourism.org/agritourism.
