Sue Serino Launches “Superstar” Initiative

HYDE PARK – Senator Sue Serino has launched her second annual “Serino’s Superstars” initiative to recognize local middle school students who are promoting kindness and demonstrating courage and leadership in their school communities. Serino is encouraging local middle school leaders to nominate one student from their school who is making a difference in the lives of others during this time.

“A little bit of kindness can go a long way, especially during tough times like this,” said Senator Serino. “This academic year came with many unusual challenges as teachers and students alike have had to quickly adapt to a remote learning program. While students have had to find new ways to stay in touch with classmates and complete assignments from their homes, I know that this means they’re also finding new ways to demonstrate kindness, courage and leadership, and we want to recognize them for their efforts. I encourage members of the school community to nominate local middle schoolers who are thinking outside the box to continue to spread positivity and kindness in their school communities.”

One in five students in the United States have said they experienced bullying, and 30% of students have said to experience it in middle school. “Serino’s Superstars” is an initiative aimed at combating these statistics by recognizing students in middle schools throughout the 41st Senate District who go the extra mile to prevent bullying and stand out due to their kindness.

School leaders can learn more about the initiative and nominate students online by clicking here. Completed nomination forms are due back by Friday, June 12th.

This year, Senator Serino will be congratulating each “Superstar” virtually. Residents with questions regarding the “Serino’s Superstars” initiative can call Senator Serino’s district office at (845) 229-0106 or email serino@nysenate.gov.
