Another Glass Ceiling Has Now Been Shattered

This current administration’s refusal to concede the election, and their determination to delegitimize the Bidden/Harris Administration before it has begun, can be contributed in large part, in my opinion, to visual imagery! I say that because visual imagery is very powerful and important, and I believe it is very crucial and necessary to state the obvious. The obvious being what Vice President Elect Kamala Harris represents. This win for Vice President Elect Kamala Harris is very symbolic, it symbolizes the glass ceiling has been shattered for little girls and women, especially for black and brown women in particular.

The genie has been let out of the bottle and there is no going back! The people have spoken and the Biden/Harris ticket garnered over 74 million of the votes! So, I ask what ever happened to bowing out gracefully? You fought a dirty fight and tried to suppress the vote, it didn’t work. Now, your refusal to accept the results, and try to use every weapon in your arsenal to stop what is destined to be, won’t work either. Did we ever think or believe the current administration would accept the outcome of this election, absolutely not! What is really going on here? As I stated earlier, visual imagery is very powerful and important!

So, what does that mean?

We live in a world that has historically perpetuated systemic racism and sexism since the beginning of time! The negative imagery that has plagued our society about people of color and women have been by design! If you can’t visualize it then why believe you can achieve it! Also, let’s not pretend there isn’t a huge elephant in the room! The fact that a woman of color will now sit so close to the Oval Office has some people very frightened! So, are we really surprised to see how far this current administration will go to undermine the results of this election?

For the past four years we have had a front row seat into this administration’s racist and misogynistic practices and policies. Therefore, why would we not believe that they would stop at nothing to make sure that Vice President elect Kamala Harris, who is a multiracial American, and would be the United States’ first female, first African-American, first Asian-American, and first Caribbean-American Vice President, would be exposed to nothing but their hateful exploits. This is nothing new because many of our leaders of the past have experienced worse than this. Right about now let me share this which was written by Dr. Martin Luther King ,Jr. in his book “Why We Can’t Wait:” “I see an African-American girl in a small town in the South. She also studies hard and obeys her parents. As she sits down to have dinner with her family, they turn on the evening news. She sees a clip of the president giving a speech that day. After her mother and father comment on the story, the girl tells her parents that that is what she wants to be when she grows up- president of the United States. Her parents do not laugh at her or tell her to ignore her dreams. They tell her that, if she puts her mind to it, she can be whatever she wants to be.” Evidently, Kamala’s parents also did not laugh at her or tell her to ignore her dreams either. Praise God!

Vice President elect Kamala Harris will also be the highest-ranking female elected official in U.S. history. As I stated again, visual imagery is very powerful and important. Think of all the little girls, especially the black and brown girls, who will now see themselves in the image of Vice President elect Kamala Harris, and imagine that one day they too can aspire to achieve the possible, no longer the impossible! So, let me say to every little girl out there that this administration can try as they might, but they will not succeed! You too can achieve your highest dreams! It won’t be easy, not by any stretch of the imagination. You will be met with obstacles, the road you travel will be hard! However, trust and believe that all your endeavors, your hard work and determination can and will come to fruition! To the rest of my readers I say hold tight and just wait, come January 20, 2021 on Inauguration Day there will be a new administration and it will be a day of jubilation and celebration!
