New Hospital to Open its Doors in January

POUGHKEEPSIE – The new 752,000-square-foot Vassar Brothers Medical Center patient pavilion is expected to be placed into service in early to mid-January.

The $500-million project, the most expensive construction in the history of the City of Poughkeepsie, has been under development for over two years.

The building, with its sleek design, follows the lines of the Hudson River.

The pavilion is eight stories above ground and includes new surgical suites, 264 patient rooms, 30 critical care rooms, a 66-bay emergency department and a 300-seat conference center.

Hospital spokesman John Nelson said the new facility is virtually complete and awaits State Health Department approvals before it can be occupied.
