12-year-old Girl is Shot Dead in City of Kingston

KINGSTON – The victim of the latest deadly shooting in the City of Kingston was a 12-year-old girl, identified by her family as Dj’aneira Mason.

She was shot along with 10-year-old Dansi Mason around 8 p.m. Thursday at the rear apartment at 60 Van Buren Street.

Dansi Mason was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie where he was reported in stable condition and is expected to recover, police said.

A GoFundMe page has been created by the family.

“My 12-year-old baby sister was tragically shot in the head and killed tonight while in her own home. I would like to help raise money for whatever expenses needed to get through this terrible tragedy. She was such a sassy, loving little girl with such a big personality. She will be missed tremendously. My family is completely devastated. If you cannot donate, please share! Thank you so much!” wrote Chade Mason.

“There are no words that can take away the pain and grief so many are feeling right now, said Mayor Steven Noble. “What happened last night is every parent’s worst nightmare. Our hearts are with the family who suffered this unimaginable loss.”

Kingston Police have asked the State Police to take the lead in the investigation but will continue to aid and support the troopers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police at 845-338-1702. All calls will be kept confidential.
