Newburgh Teacher Arrested in Drug Bust

NEWBURGH – Jennifer Krom, who was arrested along with Jason Pease earlier this month in what Ulster County law enforcement said followed an investigation into sales and trafficking of heroin and fentanyl in northern Ulster, is a teacher in the Enlarged Newburgh City School District.

Krom and Pease were both charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team.
When stopped in a vehicle, police found some 200 bags of heroin and fentanyl hidden inside and on them.

Krom was also charged with the felony of tampering with physical evidence.

“I hope and pray the story isn’t true,” said Newburgh City Mayor Torrance Harvey, a fellow teacher in the Newburgh district. “Ms. Krom is an educator and as a fellow educator and elected official I will say she has the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, and will have her day in court,” he said. “Either way it’s sad news. Just when we thought 2020 had brought our community a tough time, this makes it a more difficult year for all of us. I pray for her and her family.”

Following her arrest, Krom was released on an appearance ticket to a local court.
