Habitat Dutchess County Hosts First Virtual Home Dedication

POUGHKEEPSIE – On Wednesday December 16, 2020, Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County hosted it’s first virtual home dedication for our newest Habitat Homeowner. The dedication was done via Zoom with the Habitat Homeowner, family, friends, donors, volunteers, board members, and local dignitaries in attendance, We welcomed the family not only to their new home but to their new neighborhood.

Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County has built 30 safe, affordable forever homes since 1986. The Habitat Build Team has completed over 125 home repairs allowing seniors and other home owners to live safely in their homes. Habitat Restore supports the mission of homeownership through sales of gently used and new home goods. Additionally low cost quality home goods help families furnish their homes. Another bonus includes keeping hundred of thousands of items out of the land fill each year.

Although the day was different from traditional dedications. It was still a special day filled love and happiness. Maureen Brennen Lashlee, Executive Director stated “The path to Homeownership is challenging for our families. Fatima met those challenges with grace and gratitude. We trust her journey has just begun. Her contribution to the community is already apparent.”

During the dedication Fatima stated, “Habitat paved the way for me to be a homeowner and that I could make my own decision and empowered me to do what I needed to do for me and my family.” A recording of the Home dedication is available on the Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County’s social media accounts.
