Senator Skoufis Honors Pastor With State Award

NEWBURGH – Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) awarded Pastor Robert McLymore of Newburgh with a State Senate Commendation Award for his work both as a police officer in the Town of Wallkill and a pastor in the City of Newburgh.

Pastor McLycmore has deep roots in the City of Newburgh; he grew up in the city, attended Newburgh schools where his children now attend, and recently began serving as the police department’s part-time senior advisor. McLymore’s father founded Newburgh’s Life Restoration Church in 1990, the church that McLycmore now serves at as a pastor.

McLymore helped create a neighborhood program in the Town of Wallkill to help improve police-community relations. He is deeply committed to lowering grime and gang violence in the city and in this pastoral role, organizes food donations, baskets, and drives throughout the year for neighbors in need.

“Pastor McLymore has an unwavering life mission to serve the people in his community and as a result, has empowered the lives of thousands of people,” said Senator Skoufis. “He exemplifies what a dedicated community partner is, and I look forward to continuing to support his efforts to provide resources and support to neighbors who need it most.”

“It is with great gratitude and appreciation that I received the Senator’s Commendation Award,” said Pastor RD McLymore. “Serving my community and working with the City of Newburgh Police Department as well as other organizations to build, restore and repair relationships is what I’ve been called to do. To see my efforts recognized and appreciated by Senator Skoufis encourages me to continue on this path. I often say, Change is not in what we say, it’s in what we do. I am honored to receive this award. Thank you again to Senator Skoufis for this prestigious recognition.”

Back in November, Pastor McLycmore and Senator Skoufis joined forces for a Thanksgiving Basket Drive, securing enough donations to feed hundreds of families in Newburgh for the Thanksgiving holiday.
